Tony Award nominee Billy Magnussen is exiting his role in the Tony Award-winning Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike on August 4, amid reports that he has been cast in the upcoming film version of Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods. Magnussen will be replaced for the duration of the run (through August 25) by understudy Creed Garnick.

Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike is a Chekhovian sendup written by Christopher Durang. The comedy opened March 5 featuring a star-studded cast that included David Hyde Pierce and Sigourney Weaver. Weaver left the production on July 28.

Billy Magnussen’s goofy sex appeal has taken the Broadway world by storm. For TheaterMania’s Billy Magnussen or Kanye — Who Said It? quiz, click here. Or click here to see how Billy spent his days while appearing in Vanya and Sonia.
