Mitchell also coauthored ”Hedwig and the Angry Inch” with Stephen Trask.
Original Hedwig John Cameron Mitchell began his eight-week run in Broadway's Hedwig and the Angry Inch on January 21 at the Belasco Theatre.
Mitchell, who cowrote the show with Stephen Trask, stars with Lena Hall in the Tony-winning production. Michael Mayer directs.
Mitchell's performance in the show marks his first New York stage appearance since 1998, when he originated the role of Hedwig at the Jane Street Theatre. He later starred in and directed the 2001 film version of Hedwig and the Angry Inch and received a Golden Globe nomination.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch opened on Broadway on April 22, 2014. Mitchell is Broadway's fourth Hedwig, following Tony winner Neil Patrick Harris, Andrew Rannells, and Michael C. Hall. His engagement in the musical is scheduled to conclude March 14.
