Wicked National Tour Welcomes Andy Mientus and More Broadway Vets

The touring production of the long-running musical Wicked will welcome three Broadway veterans to its cast. Beginning Tuesday, November 22, at Wharton Center in East Lansing, Michigan, Isabel Keating will take on the role of Madame Morrible, Fred Applegate will play the Wizard, and Andy Mientus will join as Boq.

Keating is best known for her Tony-nominated and Drama Desk-winning performance as Judy Garland in The Boy From Oz. She has also been seen on Broadway in Hairspray, Enchanted April, Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark, and It’s Only a Play.

Applegate returns to the role of the Wizard, which he performed on Broadway last year. His other Broadway credits include Tuck Everlasting, The Last Ship, Sister Act, La Cage aux Folles, Young Frankenstein, and The Producers.

Mientus was last seen on Broadway in the Deaf West revival of Spring Awakening. He is best known for his role as Kyle Bishop in NBC's musical series Smash. He also originated the role of Marius in the 2014 Broadway revival of Les Misérables.

The current touring company of Wicked also features Jessica Vosk (Elphaba), Amanda Jane Cooper (Glinda), Chad Jennings (Doctor Dillamond), Kristen Martin (Nessarose), Jeremy Woodard (Fiyero), and Emily Schultheis (standby for Elphaba).

Based on the novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire, Wicked is set in the land of Oz and tells the story of young girls Glinda and Elphaba, who grow up to become Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West, respectively.

Featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the production is directed by Joe Mantello with musical staging by Wayne Cilento. The show opened October 30, 2003, making it currently the 10th-longest-running production in Broadway history.
