The musical is expected to be shot for posterity featuring original cast members.
Original Newsies leading players Jeremy Jordan and Kara Lindsay will return to the musical for a brief engagement later this summer, when it's filmed for posterity, according to published reports. The shoot will take place at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, and it is unknown as to whether or not other original cast members will join.
Newsies won Tony Awards for Best Original Score Written for the Theatre and Best Choreography. It features music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, with a book by Harvey Fierstein. The musical, inspired by the 1992 film of the same name, tells the story of a group of tenacious newsboys at the turn of the last century who band together to form a union and lead a strike after selling prices are raised. At the time of Newsies' Broadway closing, it played 1,005 performances at the Nederlander Theatre.
Jordan and Lindsay originated the roles of Jack Kelly and Katherine Plumber both on Broadway and at the Paper Mill Playhouse, where the show originated.
