The Broadway vets took the stage for a panel at BroadwayCon.
William Finn and the stars of his 1979 musical In Trousers reunited on January 27 for a panel discussion hosted by Jennifer Ashley Tepper at BroadwayCon. The three-day fan fest for theatergoers and Broadway enthusiasts takes place at New York City's Jacob Javits Center, with more than 15,000 theater fans expected to attend.
In Trousers is the musical that introduced Marvin, Finn's character that would later become the protagonist of the musicals March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland, as well as Falsettos, which just concluded a Broadway revival at the Walter Kerr Theatre. In Trousers, which premiered in 1979 at Playwrights Horizons, follows Marvin (originally played by Chip Zien) as he recalls the relationships he shared with his unnamed wife (played by Alison Fraser) and high school English teacher (played by Mary Testa). Zien and Fraser would go on to star in the original production of March of the Falsettos as Mendel and Trina, with Zien repeating his Mendel in Falsettoland and Falsettos on Broadway.
