The Boston Theater Critics Association has selected this year’s recipients.
The 2018 recipients of the Elliot Norton Awards were announced earlier this evening in a ceremony at the Huntington Avenue Theatre. Awards were presented to more than two dozen actors, directors, designers, and ensembles by the Boston Theater Critics Association (BTCA), in addition to Leigh Barrett, who was presented with the annual Elliot Norton Prize for Sustained Excellence. Randy Rainbow was the evening's guest of honor.
This year's winning productions included The Color Purple (Boch Center Shubert Theatre) for Outstanding Visiting Production; Arrabal (American Repertory Theater) for Outstanding Musical Production; Beckett in Brief (Commonwealth Shakespeare Company) for Outstanding Production, Large Theater; Constellations (Underground Railway Theater) for Outstanding Production, Midsize Theater; Hype Man: a break beat play (Company One Theatre) for Outstanding Production, Small Theater; and 3/Fifths' Trapped in a Traveling Minstrel Show (Sleeping Weazel) for Outstanding Production, Fringe Theater.
In addition to receiving the Elliot Norton Prize for Sustained Excellence, Leigh Barrett also earned the award for Outstanding Musical Performance by an Actress for her performances in the Lyric Stage Company of Boston productions of Souvenir and Gypsy.
