Kathleen Chalfant and Paul Niebanck have been cast in Blessing’s ”A Walk in the Woods”.
Keen Company has announced plans for its 2014-15 season, which will include Lee Blessing’s A Walk in the Woods and John and Jen, featuring music by Andrew Lippa, lyrics by Tom Greenwald, and a book by Lippa and Greenwald.
Keen's A Walk in the Woods (September 9-October 18) will be the first major New York revival of the play. The production is set to star Kathleen Chalfant and Paul Niebanck, with direction by Keen Artistic Director Jonathan Silverstein. The Pulitzer Prize-nominated drama is described as a "debate on the hope and ultimate futility of high-stakes politics."
Keen's rare revival of Lippa and Greenwald's John & Jen (performances begin February 10) will follow in the spring. Jonathan Silverstein will direct this musical about family that tells the story of Jen and her relationships with the two Johns of her life: her younger brother and her son.
A one-night benefit reading of John Patrick’s The Hasty Heart will be presented on December 8. The play, a moving story of a young Scottish soldier, was originally staged by Keen in 2004. The Hasty Heart will reunite most of its original cast, including Stephen Bradbury, Emily Donahoe, Anthony Manna, Keith Nobbs, Brian Sgambati, and Paul Swinnerton.
Keen Company as produced 33 full-length plays and one musical. It has been honored with seven Drama Desk nominations and one Drama Desk Award.
