World Premiere of Faith Begins at the Dairy Center for the Arts

Local Theater Company’s presentation of Faith starts its run tonight at the Dairy Center for the Arts.

Thirteen-year-old Simon is the son of "an apostate" mother and an absent father. Desperate for an ecstatic vision to affirm his faith, he finally receives one in the parking lot of a local Walmart. The appearance changes his world, transforming his faith and taking him down an unexpected path. The examination of religious fanaticism is both funny and provocative and asks audiences to question, and perhaps affirm, their own faith.

Artistic director Pesha Rudnick directs the show, which was written by James McLindon. The cast is led by Em Grosland, who performs alongside Meredith Crosley and Mare Trevathan.

Says director Pesha Rudnick, "When we produced the reading of Faith during the Lab last year, I was struck by how much of Simon’s identity is shaped by his devotion to God. Some teenagers find their sense of identity through fandom of a band, a sports team, Star Wars. The thin line between fan and fanatic is rather permeable through our teenage years."

The creative team includes Kathryn Kawecki (set design), Annabel Louise Reader (costume design), Shannon McKinney (lighting design), Hunter Ewen (sound design), Sophie Hernando Kofman (props design), and Mike Jones (stage manager).

Performances will run through December 6.
