Tony winners William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin collaborate on the new musical’s original score.
Barrington Stage Company has announced its initial selections for its 2018 season, kicking off with the world premiere of The Royal Family of Broadway.
Beginning performances in June 2018, the show features a book by Tony Award winner Rachel Sheinkin (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) and music and lyrics by Tony Award winner William Finn (Falsettos). The musical is based on The Royal Family, a 1927 comedy by George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber, and is directed by Tony winner John Rando and choreographed by Tony nominee Joshua Bergasse, who collaborated on the 2014 Broadway revival of On the Town. The show will run on the mainstage from June 7-30, 2018, with an official June 13 opening.
Barrington's 2018 season will also include the classic Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, and Arthur Laurents musical West Side Story. The production will celebrate the 100th birthday of Leonard Bernstein and Jerome Robbins, who directed and choreographed the original production. The Barrington mounting will be directed by Julianne Boyd and choreographed by Tony nominee Robert La Fosse (Jerome Robbins' Broadway). Performances will run on the mainstage from July 27-August 26, 2018, with an official August 1 opening.
Barrington is currently in performances of Gaslight (Angel Street), written by Patrick Hamilton and directed by Louisa Proske.
