Bess Wohl’s Small Mouth Sounds is set for the first leg of its upcoming seven-month national tour. The production stops first at San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theater, running from October 11-December 10. Get a first look in the gallery below.
Small Mouth Sounds is described as follows: “Under the eye of an unseen guru, six wildly disparate urbanites looking for life balance gather for a week-long silent retreat in the woods. As they listen to their leader’s ruminations (and struggle to meditate while clumsily fighting their most primal of urges), they learn that silence can indeed be golden. It can also be funny, frustrating, erotic, comforting, and profoundly passive-aggressive.”
Under the direction of Tony nominee Rachel Chavkin (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812), the cast of Small Mouth Sounds features Connor Barrett (Jan), Ben Beckley (Ned), Edward Chin-Lyn (Rodney), Orville Mendoza (Teacher), Brenna Palughi (Alicia), Socorro Santiago (Joan), and Cherene Snow (Judy).
The A.C.T. production features the original design team from the off-Broadway production, including Laura Jellinek (scenic designer), Tilly Grimes (costume designer), Mike Inwood (lighting designer), Stowe Nelson (sound designer), Andrew Schneider (projection designer), and Noah Mease (prop designer).
Small Mouth Sounds had its world premiere at Ars Nova in 2015, followed by a second off-Broadway run at the Pershing Square Signature Center.
