Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour

About the Show

In 1983, a relatively unknown singer named Cyndi Lauper put out her debut album, entitled She’s So Unusual. Within two years, she’d be a superstar, tracks like “Time After Time” and “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” would cement themselves as among the greatest pop songs of the 20th century, and she’d take home her first Grammy.

In the five decades since, she hasn’t slowed down. Her song “True Colors” became an anthem for the LGBTQ community, and “Time After Time” is a standard that’s been covered by the likes of P!nk, Sam Smith, and Miles Davis, who performed it at his final concert, which took place at the Hollywood Bowl. In the ’90s, she picked up an Emmy for her guest spot on sitcom Mad About You, and in the 2010s, she composed the music and lyrics for the Broadway smash Kinky Boots—adding a Tony Award and another Grammy Award to her trophy case in the process. Her progressive pop and independent image have made her an influence on everyone from Lady Gaga to Katy Perry to Kim Petras.

This summer, she waves goodbye, bringing her Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour to the Bowl. “I want to celebrate with people,” she recently told Jimmy Kimmel. “Really celebrate with people and make it fun.” Be part of that celebration—and give this legendary pop star her flowers—on a pair of nights this summer.
