Emma, a young woman, wants to be a “political model.” Her ambition is to become a publicly visible model who will be in a position to be a spokesperson for issues relating to the advancement of women. Early gradual successes as a beauty contestant, model and commerical actress seem to point her in this direction. She has to deal with some difficult immediate realities: her realtionship with an alcoholic abusive father; a loving but smothering mother; a boyfriend she’s outgrown; her sense of duty to her troubled lesbian sister. She becomes the head of a fashion firm, but decides that money isn’t enough and takes steps to return to her own dreams.
