Theatre Forty is proud to present Tina Howe’s PAINTING CHURCHES. Margaret Church, a painter on the verge of success, returns to her parents, both to help them move out of their old family home and into their summer cottage, and to paint their portrait. Gardner Church is a world-famous poet, now gracefully lapsing into senility; his wife Fanny, an eccentric, no-nonsense lady filled with nonsense. The exercise of painting the portrait becomes the device for child and parent to rediscover one another. As the Churches recall key moments in their shared past, Howe strips away thir conflicting memories to arrive at the truth.
