Substance of Fire is Jon Robin Baitz’ commanding drama about Isaac Geldhart, a New York publisher and Holocaust survivor whose decision to publish obscure political tracts threatens the future of both his company and his family. It is a deeply moving, intelligently written story that incorporates wit and sympathy for human frailty. Baitz is one of the theatre’s outstanding playwrights whose work has been produced in New York, Los Angeles, and at regional theatres around the country and abroad. Beverly Olevin will stage Beitz’ work for Theatre 40.
