The Blacker the Berry the Sweeter the Juice, written and performed by Mario Burrell, has its world premiere at the Zephyr Theatre. NAACP-nominated director Jemal McNeil directs the poignant and profound one-person comedy about Burrell’s journey and experiences of meeting the people who have influenced his life.
Burrell creates a fruitful cast of 8 characters depicting the various people who have affected his life and have inspired his appreciation for his black heritage. The show is a comedic, poignant look at life in Hollywood, through the eyes of a father, a groundbreaking publicist for Hollywood’s Black elite and a son, an actor attempting to continue his father’s legacy.
