Set in 1900, The Little Foxes tells the story of the scheming Hubbards and their single-minded pursuit of wealth even at the expense of other family members. With scorching satire, playwright Lillian Hellman revels in the ruthless manipulations of a family reconciling personal greed with their collective need to survive. The Little Foxes opened on Broadway in 1939 with Tallulah Bankhead starring as Regina, followed two years later by a film with Bette Davis in the lead.
The Little Foxes is being presented in repertory with Another Part of the Forest. Written in 1946, Another Part of the Forest is the prequel to The Little Foxes. Together, the plays serve as a masterful dramatic account of a middle class southern family’s avarice and greed as they struggle to maintain position and power.
