The play is based on the famous novel by B. Traven (1890-1969) and then adapted by Herb Robins for the stage. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre tells the story of a small party of American prospectors in Depression-era Mexico. Aflame with the lust for gold, violence threatens to destroy the band from within. Along the way, they encounter a rival prospector and a bloodthirsty gang of murderous banditos. There’s untold wealth somewhere in the hills of Sierra Madre, Mexico, but there’s also death lurking behind every shadow. Will greed destroy them all? The residents of a humble Mexican village may offer some of them a path toward redemption.
Special Thursday performance on August 4 at 8 p.m. Dark on Sunday July 26.
