Treasure Dances of Bhutan

The Black Neck Crane Dance Troupe from Bhutan presents the Treasure Dances of Bhutan, a national tour showcasing the finest of sacred mask dance (chham) and traditional folk dance (zhabdro).

The chham dances portray epic tales of celestial heroes and heroines, the subjugation of malicious demons, and the inner drama of our own spiritual nature. The sacred dances are complimented by the rich tradition of Bhutanese folk dance which further embody the distinctive spiritual culture of Bhutan. As the dancers sing ballads recounting the beauty of the natural world and reverence for their ancient Buddhist tradition, they are accompanied by dranyen and yangchen, Bhutanese string instruments.
