About the Show

Renowned Bay Area playwright Philip Kan Gotanda’s latest play, The Wind Cries Mary, is loosely based on Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler. Set against the backdrop of rock ‘n’ roll and the Civil Rights movement, the play follows Eiko, a Japanese American woman of vast gifts and intelligence hamstrung by the double burdens of gender and tradition in 1968. Eric Simonson directs.
