The performance is the culmination of a three-week writing workshop called Curious New Voices. Now in its second year, Curious New Voices provides 15-21 year old authors with the guidance of highly experienced instructors and nationally renowned playwrights to develop original scripts, which are then mounted for the public by professional actors and directors. Each play is given a maximum of 25 minutes of stage time.
This years’ teaching team is Curious New Voices’ director Dee Covington, Bonnie Metzgar (Curious’ Associate Artistic Director and former Associate Producer of NYC’s Public Theatre) and Laura Tesman (Assistant Professor of Performing Arts at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs). Visiting playwrights include Pulitzer winner Suzan-Lori Parks (Top Dog/Underdog), Steve Sapp (co-creator of Slanguage), and Elaine Romero (Barrio Hollywood).
