About the Show

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

In a multi-faceted career, Isaac Hayes has been an actor, cookbook author, restaurateur, disc jockey, and humanitarian. He is also an icon of soul music.

Hayes helped to invent the “Memphis Sound” of Stax Records in the 60s, and later created a sensation with the album Hot Buttered Soul. His career zoomed with Shaft. The music for the 1971 film won him a bundle of awards, including an Oscar. A new two-CD set entitled Ultimate Isaac Hayes: Can You Dig It? provides a retrospective of his career. On screen, Hayes has appeared in 50 feature films, with highlights including the 2005 indie hit Hustle & Flow, co-starring with Golden Globe nominee Terrence Howard and Ludacris. A new generation of fans also discovered him as the voice of Chef on South Park. In other endeavors, Hayes has been a d.j. in New York and Memphis; opened restaurants in Memphis and Chicago; authored a cookbook now in its third printing; and created The Isaac Hayes Foundation for charitable causes.
