Tickets are now on sale at Theatre Jacksonville for The Belle of Amherst, a classic play about the life of American poet Emily Dickinson.
The Belle of Amherst uses Dickinson’s diaries, letters and poetry to tell the intriguing personal story of the reclusive artist. Sinda Nichols plays Emily in this poignant one-woman performance, which is set in the parlor of Dickinson’s Amherst, MA, home where she lived her entire life and where the majority of her work was composed.
Much like Dickinson’s poetry itself, The Belle of Amherst is a love affair with language and a celebration of all that is beautiful and poignant in life. The play reveals the pain and joy of Dickinson’s secluded life, details her few significant relationships and celebrates her enormous talent, using the dramatic quality of the artist’s own words.
