About the Show

Synchronicity introduces Night.Light, a night of one-acts under the direction of two of Atlanta’s up-and-coming artists – Danielle Mindess and Amber Bradshaw. The eclectic group of plays explores the range of human responses to the unknown. Amidst a musically charged backdrop, characters wrestle with fear and search for hope. Through four varied perspectives, some light is shed upon the effects of fear on our human nature and how these effects shape our choices in life.

The Plays:

Icarus’s Mother
By Sam Shepard, directed by Danielle Mindess
As night falls on Independence Day, five full-bellied young people await the annual fireworks display. When a small airplane flies over their picnic site, the friends reflect dreamily upon the experiences of its pilot. The imaginary begins to blend with reality, culminating in the descent of the plane, which creates fireworks of mythic proportions.

Tone Clusters
By Joyce Carol Oates, directed by Amber Bradshaw
Frank and Emily Gulick’s son, Carl, is heading to trial for the savage slaying of 14-year-old Edith Kaminsky, whose mutilated body was found in the Gulick’s basement. Frank and Emily have agreed to be interviewed for a television documentary. During the course of the interview, lead by a haunting and unseen interviewer, the Gulicks weave together a fragmented narrative about the murder that has torn apart their neighborhood and shook their lives. Through a series of questions and answers that are frequently askew, the interviewer takes the Gulicks on a journey through time, space, memory and the Universe.

Your Roaring Blood
By Catherine Trieschmann, directed by Amber Bradshaw and Danielle Mindess:
Set in the exact same location, in a non-descript time period, two versions of the same simple story about two young country children turns into a reflection of sexual maturation in the children of today. What we learn is that, as a child, perhaps a fear of the unknown can protect us and teach us – whereas that same fear for adults may cripple and destroy us.

The Wednesday, November 15 performance of Night.Light is scheduled for 10:00 PM, rather than 8:00 PM.
