Eight years ago, Bailiwick Repertory unveiled a new musical — with Book by John Reeger and Music and Lyrics by Julie Shannon – that has grown into one of Chicago’s most loved holiday traditions, and is seen by people annually across America. The Christmas Schooner is a true Chicago story, based on the lives of sailors who braved the icy waters of Lake Michigan to bring Tannenbaums to German immigrants living in fire-ravaged Chicago. Full of charming dances, wonderful choral music, and a heartwarming story that has touched thousands of people over the years, The Christmas Schooner stands as a great new holiday tradition, and a remarkable success story for the authors and the theater.
