The Big Easy is a retro-jazz-themed dance and performance revue, featuring burlesque, jazz, musical theater, hip hop, belly dance, special guests in drag, and stand-up.
The big-boned babes of Big Moves tip their hats and flip some fringe to the ’20s through ’40s, to New Orleans, and most of all, to JAZZ. It’s a feast for eyes, ears, and toes, and Amazonian emcee Deidra Everett knows how to dish it out, starting off with a smoky set from the hip hop queens, the Phat Fly Girls. Filling the Stage is back with two sizzling new Broadway jazz numbers, one straight-up and the other rewritten to be as fat as you can handle. Caravan of Curves samples from jazz for bellydance that really works those skirts, and Thick (Big Moves’ new burlesque company) just fans the flames.
With recent appearances by group members on Entertainment Tonight and in The New York Times, Big Moves likes to keep busy nationwide. The Provincetown show is a revival of the whirlwind Big Easy tour that swept through New England and New York City earlier this year. And Big Moves is international, baby: the troupe appearing in Provincetown will be fresh off the bus from Montreal, where they staged last year’s smash hit sci-fi dance musical, Gargantua, at the Montreal Fringe Festival.
The theater’s box office opens one hour prior to showtime.
