History has taught us that love can exist anywhere, under the most unlikely circumstances. And love can penetrate anything – including alternate realities and surrogate bodies, and can survive seemingly insurmountable obstacles, high-tech pitfalls, and the unknown future. A science fiction musical that falls squarely into the cult category has come to Chicago for fourteen performances only at Strawdog Theatre.
Weird Romance, whose authors are all multi-award-winners, features music by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors), book by Alan Brennert (The New Twilight Zone), plus lyrics and additional book by David Spencer (The Fabulist).
Their daring musical adapts two of Speculative Fiction’s most acclaimed stories: The Girl Who Was Plugged In by James Tiptree, Jr. (pseudonym of Alice B. Sheldon), which examines the folly of love’s outer trappings and Her Pilgrim Soul by Alan Brennert, which examines the deeper, undying love held within.
