Broadway for preserving and promoting Broadway music.”
Basically Broadway has become the area’s much-awaited entertainment concert each spring. An annual sell-out, it features selections from numerous Broadway shows. It was founded by Artistic Director, Barbara Brilliant and by pianist, Willa Trevens. Brilliant, a former musical theatre actress, attended McGill Conservatory of Music, was Artist in Residence for the City of Boston, host of Prime Time, People Are Talking, and For Kids Only on WBZ-TV. She is an award-winning composer/producer of the CD, Brilliant Better Late Than Never.
Members come from as far away as Hingham and Dracut to be part of this exciting company and audiences from as far as California and New York. What makes this group unique is the combination of working professional singers, dancers and musicians as well as a no-audition ensemble who come from all walks of life: doctors, lawyers, a forest ranger, teachers and homemakers. Returning is baritone, James Coelho who has played Phantom in a road company of Phantom of the Opera. He is joined by Brian DeLorenzo, tenor, who has performed at North Shore Music Theater and Lisa Yves, Boston Popsearch finalist and leader of the rock band, HRT.
American ballroom dance champion, Dan Radler and his wife, Deirdre, will be doing a ballroom exhibition. Dan was on the PBS series, Ballroom Champions seen on PBS. Making her debut with Basically Broadway is Grace Kelly of Brookline. Grace, the 2006 Basically Broadway scholarship winner is a 13-year old saxophone player and singer. Mike Zaitchik will be leading the five-piece Basically Broadway Band with Willa Trevens of Newton on piano.
