Beauty for Ashes contains three playlets, set in three different parts of the world — individual true stories of love, trust and faith, and their impact upon the future generations, all performed with original music and lyrics.
The first drama, Jodi, is a coming of age tale of a young man in nineteenth century Alabama whose mother’s faith in him was his foundation for a successful and fulfilling future, despite his obstacles. In the second story, When the Pineapple Ripens, a Puerto Rican father reflects lovingly upon his past as he readies his daughter for her college education and a new life. The son of a wealthy contractor, his dreams for his daughter echo those of his own mother who gave him the gift of love and hope. In A Hole in the Fence, set in the period of Stalin’s Russia, a mother and daughter are placed in a Siberian labor camp, from which the eleven year old escapes, and is eventually reunited with her mother.
