The Christmas Revels

About the Show

The Christmas Revels is set in a great English Manor in Derbyshire, on the shortest day in the year 1399. Villagers have come at the invitation of the Lord of the Manor, to feast, drink wassail, and revel in entertainments provided by visiting French troubadours – and you’re invited as well! The Christmas Revels is filled with traditional music and grand choral works, folk and court dances, merry songs and lovely carols we’ll sing as rounds, a “St. George and the Dragon” mummers’ play and more!
The medieval English theme is an homage to Revels’ early shows and includes many fan favorites like the ancient Abbots Bromley Horn Dance, The Boar’s Head Carol from Oxford, The Shortest Day poem by Susan Cooper, and the inviting Lord of the Dance, which will have you singing – and dancing – through the aisles! More than 80 performers will take the stage including Debra Wise, Artistic Director of Underground Railway Theater, who will narrate The Adventures of Fauvel, a medieval satire with more than a little relevance today. Other performers include soloists Michael Collver, Daniela Tosic and David Coffin, The Pinewoods Morris Men,
The Cambridge Symphonic Brass Ensemble, and the Revels Chorus of adults and children. Patrick Swanson directs.
