Oliver!

The Plymouth Theatre Guild presents OLIVER!, Lionel Bart’s musical retelling of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist. Oliver is an orphan in London whose only friends are a gang of child thieves and their adult keepers. Once Oliver’s true family is found, he must be safely delivered to them before he is stolen away forever by Bill Sykes. Nancy, Bill’s abused girlfriend, tries to help Oliver to no avail. She is killed by Bill, who is in turn killed as he tries to escape. Oliver has now found the family he has sought for so long. The score contains songs covering the gamut; everything from the joyous “Who Will Buy?” to the downcast “As Long As He Needs Me.” -jam
