The Boys, by Jeffrey Hatcher, is based on the lives of Micheal MacLiammoir and Hilton Edwards, two inseparable figures of genius who dominated the artistic scene in Dublin’s recent history. Together they founded the Gate Theatre, bringing to Dublin, and to Ireland, a kaleidoscopic cross-section of modern European and American drama at a time when Ireland floated in cultural isolation in the mid-Atlantic; and in turn they brought back to Europe, America, Africa and Australia, to Broadway and the West End some of the richest, and many of the more bizarre components of the Irish stage. Joe Dowling directs.
