Vocalist Rebecca Spencer performs in concert at Barnes & Noble to benefit The Rainbow Company, an award-winning local youth theatre group. Spencer offers songs from her new CD Fair Warning, an album inspired by the ladies of The Red Hat Society. For the live acoustic performance, she is joined by her long-time collaborator and pianist, Philip Fortenberry. Proving that art transcends generations, Spencer is sponsoring a youth theater company through an album that celebrates the vitality of women over the age of 50. Spencer’s in-store appearance, which includes a CD signing immediately following her performance, is part of the Barnes & Noble Book Fair — a community outreach effort designed to support literary education.
Rebecca Spencer won the 2004 Back Stage Magazine Bistro Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Recording for her debut solo CD Wide Awake and Dreaming. Back Stage called the album “A stunner” and raved that Spencer “recalls the likes of Maureen McGovern and Barbara Cook in their prime.” Spencer is currently in the midst of a year-long run as a principal cast member, Madame Giry, in Phantom – The Las Vegas Spectacular. This new production of the smash show, at The Venetian, reunites Spencer with Broadway legend Harold Prince. Spencer had previously played the role of Carlotta, performed in German, for Mr. Prince’s Hamburg, Germany Phantom of the Opera Company. She is an original Broadway principal cast member of Jekyll and Hyde, and is critically-acclaimed as a vocalist and actress.
