The Haunting of Hill House

The story of four people who arrive at the purportedly evil Hill House for very different reasons: Dr. Montague, a scholar of the occult who is conducting research for a book; Theodora, a young woman believed to have strong psychic abilities; Eleanor, a friendless, fragile young woman who has had past experience with poltergeists; and Luke, the future heir of Hill House, sent by the family to monitor the research party. Mrs. Montague and Montague family friend, Arthur Parker, arrive later in the visit to conduct their own research into the supernatural using wildly different methods than those of Dr, Montague. At first, their stay seems destined to be nothing more than a frightening, albeit harmless, encounter with inexplicable phenomena. However, Hill House is gathering its powers and soon it will choose one of them keep for itself.
