Over the past twenty years, Viewpoints training has ignited the imagination of directors, writers, actors, dramaturgs, designers and choreographers. Viewpoints is taught all over the world and used by countless theatre artists yet it’s theory and application have rarely been documented. Now Anne Bogart and Tina Landau, two of the field’s most gifted and innovative directors, have created a book that distills the philosophy and provides a step-by-step recipe for using Viewpoints as a training and rehearsal technique.
The Viewpoints is a technique of improvisation that grew out of the postmodern dance world. It was first articulated by choreographer Mary Overlie, who broke down the two dominant issues performers deal with-space and time-into six categories. Since that time, directors Anne Bogart and Tina Landau have expanded her notions and adapted them for actors to function together spontaneously and intuitively and to generate bold, theatrical work.
The event is free & open and will last approximately 90 minutes. A book signing will follow.
