Serving its mission “to create a support structure for the ongoing development and proliferation of talent and new works generated by and produced by people of color,” this month’s Black 2: Broadway will honor the talents of two generations of recording and stage hit-makers: Sarah Dash from the legendary recording trio LaBelle; Grammy-nominated R&B-pop siren Shanice; soul-R&B innovative recording artist Rahsaan Patterson; and soul-jazz vocalist and Broadway star of Disney’s AIDA Simone. Backing these performers will be a house band of exceptional musicians. Latanya Hall serves as the vocal director.
With Black 2: Broadway, B2 Productions partners Sean Hollingsworth and Kevin-Anthony aim to fill the void of opportunities for stage and musical performers and unite those performers with the audiences that enthusiastically want to see them. They have created a national network of venues to support performers, producers, composers, and writers of color, thereby sustaining future opportunities for those performers. Black 2: Broadway is the first in a series of events and serves as a model for future activities to be held across the country.
Doors open at 7 p.m. for dinner and early seating. Showtime is 8 p.m. sharp.
