The New York Festival of Song brings a special energy to the once-faded form of the song recital, recreating it as a vibrantly entertaining theater experience meticulously researched and engagingly narrated by its two artistic directors, Michael Barrett and Steven Blier. This evening is a tribute to the song legacies of brilliant lyricist Dorothy Fields and prodigious piano virtuoso/singer/songwriter Fats Waller – tracing their wide-ranging, occasionally crisscrossing musical paths from the Cotton Club to Broadway to Hollywood, via Tin Pan Alley.
