Argentinean composer Osvaldo Golijov returns to BAM with Ainadamar, a powerful new chamber opera about the women who populated the work of Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca. Set to a penetrating libretto and sung with tremedous sensitivity by the incomparable Dawn Upshaw, plus four soloists and a women’s chorus, Golijov’s rhythmically engrossing score invokes the haunting, Latin lyricism of Lorca’s words.
