Engaged, a farce written in 1877 by W.S. Gilbert, is one of the finest comeides in the English repertories. It directly inspired Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest. Engaged features a delightfully complicated plot of a train wreck, con artists, broken promises, love gone wrong and a daisy chain of marriage proposals in which matrimonial vows are batted about like balloons. Doug Hughes directs.
