About the Show

Hugh Martin’s musical Love from Judy ran two years in London over a half century ago and now makes its New York premiere as part of Musical in Mufti’s 2003-2004 season. This musical romance is about an orphan girl from New Orleans in 1903. Judy Abbott, an orphan, has never been adopted because the orphanage’s superintendent retains her as a drudge. A trustee, Grace Pritchard, is impressed by the young woman’s fortitude and convinces her friend, Jervis Pendleton, to send Judy to college. Because Judy rooms with Jervis’ cousin, the two spend increasing amounts of time together and ultimately fall in love.
