A Play for our time… from 1943
The Mint Theater Company brings you a very special treat ? just in time for Thanksgiving ? John van Druten?s The Voice of the Turtle. This charming comedy, written in 1943, was designed to offer Americans diversion and solace in a time of national crisis. When a young actress who has sworn off love gets stuck entertaining a soldier on leave – whom her best friend has unceremoniously dumped in her living room – a romance is set into motion that tests her resolve. A wartime romance, the play offers us the subtle encouragement to begin “hoping and wanting and planning” again, in spite of our fears and our hurts.
