Eugene O?Neill?s rarely seen and controversial ?play with music? about interracial love, All God’s Chillun Got Wings is revived by The Peccadillo Theater Company. Directed by Dan Wackerman, the play is the story of Ella Downey and Jim Harris, a white woman and black man who fall in love amid the poverty and racism of New York?s Lower East Side. Musical Director Chantel Wright and Director Dan Wackerman expand upon O?Neill?s use of period music with the addition of several standards from the early days of Tin Pan Alley along with the earthy blues and soaring spirituals of The Bowery, circa 1905. An inter-racial chorus of gangsters and pimps, prostitutes and con men highlight O?Neill?s concern with the effect of public attitudes and beliefs on personal relationships.
