Jackie Sun, a country bumpkin, sells batteries in the New York subway as he seeks his long-lost Papa who has dumped his Chinese Opera diva-Mama. A panoply of characters give clues to the truth in an allegorical tale with humorous twists and turns.
Goy Vey! is probably the first theatrical experience to combine standup comedy, Broadway musical theatre, mime, Chinese and Western Opera, Jewish Klezmer, hip hop, Looney Tunes and other performance styles — all in a parody by one performer. By playing on the similarities between cultures, the show wreaks havoc with stereotypes and other absurd assumptions to celebrate the diversity and one-ness of the human race.
