On Wednesday, April 13th, Murray Hill, “the hardest working middle-aged man in show business” will hail a cab and head uptown to star is his own show Murray Hill On Broadway at the legendary Caroline’s On Broadway. Just when every club at which he has performed in the last decade has shut its doors or become an American Apparel, Murray catches a break with his big Broadway debut.
The legend known as “Mr. Showbiz” has been hailed “the reigning patriarch of downtown performance” by The New York Times. The New York Press exclaims, “Murray kicks out more mirth than a snow machine in Aspen,” and The Onion cheers, “Hill slings leering looks and one-liners like the best of the old Borscht Belt Standbys.” Time Out New York adds that he “Ranks up there with Golddigger-era Dino for sheer showbiz razzle dazzle.”
Murray Hill On Broadway is a new variety show loaded with his infamous Retro Borscht-Belt off-the-cuff humor, audience interaction, lovelorn ballads, Murray eating fries off someone’s plate, good-natured ribbing and a few nostalgic tales from his lifelong showbiz career. And, since you can’t be a ladies man without the ladies and to be sure Caroline’s has that boozy, bawdy Atlantic City feel, Murray has booked his favorite burlesque beauties: The World Famous Pontani Sisters and Dirty Martini to appear in this ONE NIGHT ONLY extravaganza. The Murrayettes, Murray’s cohorts from his comeback tours (’84-’04), will be on hand to hold cue cards, pull audience members on stage, and give the fellas an eyeful with their vintage showgirl get-ups and Crest-White-Strips smiles. The Fisherman Vibronic Trio will provide a live swingin’ soundtrack for the evening.
