About the Show

Sahar Salam is a 29 year old, apolitical, well-heeled but lonely New York advertising professional who loses her boyfriend to causes and ideologies greater than she is willing to fathom. Imminent heartbreak forces her to confront a lifelong resentment against her birth religion Islam, and undermines her cherished notions of American-ness. Unwittingly, Sahar
embarks upon her jihad, complete with therapeutic drinking and a dubious flirtation with avant-garde art.

A tale of spiritual and political turmoil set against a backdrop of New York dating angst, Sharbari Ahmed’s Raisins Not Virgins traces the hilariously volatile journey
of this Bangladeshi-American woman as she traverses the minefields of identity and love.
