About the Show

A young man is rehearsing the role of Hamlet, and his life parallels the events of the play. His father, the owner of a trucking company, was murdered under mysterious circumstances and his mother marries within two months the man who stands to gain most from the father’s demise. Hank, like Hamlet, is convinced his stepfather is “as guilty as sin.” His girlfriend (an actress who plays Ophelia in the play) insists he is overidentifying with the role and jumping to a conclusion. Hank’s suspicions are fueled by ghostly visits from his father as well as events. He eventually becomes unhinged, committing “Hamlet’s” equivalent murders. Or does he? Is Hank/Hamlet a procrastinator or a non-violent man fighting his “worser angels”? Will he choose death or mutual forgiveness and regeneration? Which is more real: “real life,” dreaming, or the reality of a theatrical character? Footlight Players, Inc invites you to Searching for Hamlet to find out!

There is an additional performance on Saturday, April 3 at 7:30pm.
