As Broadway takes fewer risks with each new show, the downtown theater scene is becoming the destination of choice for audiences seeking original, smart and challenging theater. Indy or “off-off” Broadway theater companies are consistently producing the cutting edge work that theater-goers are pining for.
breedingground’s Spring Fever Festival 2007 offers three weeks of works by self producing artists anchored by breedingground’s own production of A Mouthful of Birds by Caryl Churchill and David Lan. Incorporating theater, video art, short film, chamber opera, a visual art gallery, and readings and workshops of new scripts, breedingground pulls together some of the finest and least-known downtown talent to create a one-stop shop on the Lower East Side for those bored by the usual cultural fair. Each artist retains complete creative control of their project from inception through performance, giving the audience a chance to experience ground-breaking work in every creative discipline.
Categories include Performance, Installation, Projection, and Groundwork: works in progress.
