Smatter Theater Ensemble presents Ronald Ribman’s The Journey of the Fifth Horse.

In the wretched winter of 1850 St. Petersburg, a publishing house employee is assigned to read a dead man’s diary. Echoed by the young author’s story of unrequited love and hounded in a shadow world of memory and desire, he comes face-to-face with the reflection of an ostensibly
superfluous life.

This Obie Award-winning play is based, in part, on Ivan Turgenev’s short story, “Diary of a Superfluous Man.”
