The Merchant of Venice

Shylock, one of Shakespeare’s most eloquent antagonists, fights for his dignity, his gold, and the vengeance that outwieghs them both. Bassanio’s wooing of Portia tests the faith, honor, and trust between young lovers. Forces and enemies collide in an intense courtroom showdown. Illuminating the disquiet beneath the laughter, this play is a masterful examination of complex characters who decry moral corruption in others and yet struggle to know their own.
