Although the plot of The Sum of Her Parts deals with how breast cancer affects the members of two generations of the same family, it is ultimately about the very human blessing and curse of having options in our lives, figuring out what those options are and doing the best that we can with them.
Three sisters come together for the funeral of their mother, who herself has come back to observe “what she’s left behind.” Through tears, anger, laughter and even a little alcohol, the characters discover that, for better or worse, right or wrong, easy or difficult, selfish or not, every woman has decisions in her life that only she can make and, at the end of the day, what defines a woman is much more than just “the sum of her parts.”
