Tightening is an ill-fated attempt to address spiritual matters through strictly material means. Like an anxiety dream, Rob and Connor find themselves on stage in the midst of an economics exam for which they are hardly prepared. The theater they find themselves in is too small for them to escape notice and their only backdrop is a tiny landscape. Each of them is convinced that the landscape is the other person’s idea of heaven. They’ve got an idea, though: Just keep eating and cleaning and no one will notice. Guided only by an undergraduate Economics textbook and a Reagan-era Self-Improvement manual and a little help from their friends, our protagonists attempt to fabricate a prototype of paradise where everything is clean and edible.
